Newhall Fun Facts
Newhall is a neighborhood in Santa Clarita, California. The neighborhood is the oldest community of Santa Clarita. It is also located south of the Santa Clarita Valley. Newhall is located near Saugus and Stevenson Ranch. Before 1987, it was an unincorporated area. It was also the first town in the valley as well.
The town was named after Henry Newhall. Henry was a businessman who came to California in search of gold. This was during the time of the California Gold Rush. William S. Hart County Park is located in in the town. The park features tours of the Newhall’s mansion. The oldest surviving oil refinery is located in Newhall as well. This refinery is called the Pioneer Oil Refinery and it is a California Historial Landmark.
The neighborhood is also known for its tragedy called the Newhall Massacre. On April 6, 1970, four California Highway Patrol officers were shot to death. After a traffic stop, two armed criminals shot the officers. The lead Santa Clarita to increase officer safety.
